Low Port Mouthpiece: The solid metal bar features a central upward curve (a low port), which gives tongue relief while applying pressure to the horse’s bars (the sensitive, toothless space in the jaw) and palate when reins are engaged.
Curb Shanks: The long side arms create leverage. When tension is applied to the reins attached at the bottom rings, the bit acts as a lever, exerting pressure on the horse’s poll (behind the ears), chin, and mouth.
Leather Curb Strap: Attached to the upper purchase rings, this strap sits under the horse’s chin/jaw groove to act as a fulcrum and prevent the bit from rotating too far inside the mouth.
Common Uses
Western Riding Disciplines: Frequently used in reining, western pleasure, trail riding, and ranch work.
Neck Reining: Designed for neck-rein communication, allowing one-handed riding once a horse is fully trained and responsive to light pressure.
