Ingredients
3 cups bread flour (or all-purpose flour)
2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
1 cup warm milk (around 110°F / 43°C)
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
2 tbsp honey or granulated sugar
1 ½ tsp salt
1 tbsp egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp water) for brushing
Instructions
1. Activate Yeast: Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
2. Form Dough: Mix in melted butter, salt, and half the flour. Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead: Knead on a lightly floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
4. Shape & Score: Punch dough down, flatten into a rectangle, and roll tightly into a log. Place into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan. Cover lightly and let rise 45 minutes. Use a lame or sharp razor to score a shallow slit down the center.
5. Bake: Brush the top lightly with egg wash. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30–35 minutes until deep golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Cool completely before slicing.
