Country Apple Fritter Bread

Ingredients

Cinnamon-Sugar Mixture

 1/3 cup light brown sugar

 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Batter

 2/3 cup white sugar

 1/2 cup butter, softened

 2 eggs

 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder

 1/2 cup milk

Apple Mixture

2 medium apples (peeled and chopped)

 2 tablespoons white sugar

 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Glaze

 1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 to 3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream

Instructions

1. Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a standard 9×5-inch loaf pan.

2. Make Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, mix 1/3 cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Set aside.

3. Prep Apples: In another bowl, toss chopped apples with 2 tablespoons white sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.

4. Mix Batter: In a large bowl, cream 1/2 cup softened butter and 2/3 cup white sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Combine flour and baking powder, then add to the wet mixture alternately with 1/2 cup milk until just combined.

5. Layer: Pour half the batter into the prepared pan. Top with half the apple mixture and sprinkle with half the brown sugar-cinnamon mix. Lightly pat into batter. Pour remaining batter over top, followed by the rest of the apples and brown sugar mixture. Swirl gently with a knife.

6. Bake: Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

7. Glaze: Whisk powdered sugar and milk together until smooth. Drizzle generously over the warm bread before slicing.
